US Open 2005
It started of with ... hey do u guys wanna go to the US Open this year? asked G. The idea sure enough was exciting however my wallet was not fat enough to afford the tickets ...things just floated around and thinned in the daily chores... almost forgotten ..well things turned to face the bright side, I landed up with a job in NYC , Ms. A planned on coming to NJ as well and a plan was chalked out to watch the US Open live ..not on TV but at Flushing Meadows!!!
The moment we entered the main hustle bustle of the Open we were simply amazed... each one of us asking ourselves .. R we really here? There was a long walk to the courts, we had no clue whose match we would get to watch. While waiting in line at the snack bar we could see a match going on in the adjacent court relayed on big screen TV. We could hear the crowd roar in excitement outside the court as well. We could hardly wait to get there;if it was not for our rumbling stomachs and the never ending line at the snack bar. Then suddenly from the crowds someone shouted Kim Clijsters match is ON in the court we had our tickets booked in..
We finally found our way to the Arthur Ashe stadium/court ... our tickets were way up on the last level, the moment we entered the court it was a totally different world, I felt a little light headed coz of the height or was it a shear realisation and excitement that I was actually there? , I would never know :) Kim Clijsters wrapped the match in a less than an hour never giving her opponent a chance to surface and us to watch her super play.
I guess we were damn lucky that day, the fact that the next match was Roger Federer's ..!!! It was a treat to watch the champion play, truly spectacular. His opponent was also putting up a good game but could not surpass Federer, he was like always.. indomitable. Of course Federer won the match.
Three of us set off for home with loads of exciting memories with us and deciding that next time we would catch the semifinals or finals matches :) and also to come with a big group to have double the fun we had.
